CANCER RESEARCH : OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARMENIA

During the 2022 Armenians Forward Together forum, the Immune Oncology Research Institute organized a workshop with the objective of establishing a network of stakeholders to facilitate sustainable cancer research in Armenia. The workshop aimed to provide a platform for medical professionals interested in research to share their ideas, identify common goals, and plan and implement priority tasks.

The workshop featured several speakers, including Prof. Gevorg Tamamyan, CEO of the Immune Oncology Research Institute, who presented Armenia's current opportunities and challenges for cancer research, and Mikhail Groubman, CEO of Atlant Clinical, who discussed methods for operationalizing cancer research in Armenia. Prof. Arsène Mekinian, a Professor of Internal Medicine at Saint Antoine Hospital in France, shared his experience conducting basic and translational research and presented opportunities for collaboration with Armenian research groups.

In addition, Dr. David Zohrabyan, Head of the Solid Tumors Clinic, and Dr. Astghik Voskanyan, Head of the Adult Hematology Clinic, both from the Hematology Center, presented their recent research initiatives and successes. Other speakers included pediatric oncologists Dr. Ruzanna Papyan and Dr. Julieta Hoveyan, and hematologist Dr. Liana Hambardzumyan.

The workshop brought together professionals from various institutions involved in cancer-related services such as the Hematology Center named after Prof. R. Yeolyan, the National Center of Oncology named after Fanarjyan, the Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery, Yerevan State Medical University, the City of Smile Charitable Foundation, the Health Fund for Children of Armenia, Santé Armenie, and the Children of Armenia Fund. The participants included medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, researchers, and medical students, who had the opportunity to learn about each other's research projects and discuss opportunities for collaboration.
